Kayse Jama knows that the health and wellbeing of every Oregonian is interconnected. The COVID-19 pandemic has made this reality clearer than ever. As the leader of Unite Oregon, Kayse worked to craft a rapid response to serve our community members in need, and he will bring this same commitment to Oregonians who are the most vulnerable to our public health and economic crises. We must protect each other, especially our most vulnerable, and Kayse will always bring this approach to passing laws and making budget decisions. Kayse has years of experience working with community members to identify the challenges they are facing and the solutions that will work for them, and he will bring this valuable knowledge to our state’s COVID-19 response.
Kayse will ensure our public health response is grounded in the best medical advice and in principles of health equity, recognizing the disparities that exist across our Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, as well as for our low-income and frontline workers. The people of Senate District 24 are some of the hardest hit by COVID-19 and the pandemic has made underlying health disparities painfully clear. We must use this moment to both respond to our immediate crisis and to address the underlying social determinants of health, which keep so many in a constant vulnerable state.
